Micaela Luque reads from Who We Are
This is one of those events we at Readers' are particularly fond of, in part because it's origins are local, but mainly because we like helping young writers get their first tentative foot in the door. As her senior project at Sonoma Valley High, Micaela Luque decided to sit down and see if she could write a novel. This she did, and when it was complete, she published it herself. Then the local press did a write up. The next step, of course, is taking the show on the road, so we've been selling it handily at the counter, and now (what else?) she's agreed to come in for a reading/signing. Who We Are is about the tribulations of a seventeen year old boy, so in a sense it's what they call a "coming of age" story, but I think its true value lies in how it explores not just the hopes and dreams, but also the pragmatic side of the younger generation. We are pleased she did this, and even more pleased to be a small part of it.
