Ed Davis will present his newest book, "The Last Professional"
Local author Ed Davis will present his novel, The Last Professional on Wednesday, March 30th; there will be a 5:30 reception followed by a reading at 6pm. This is the first stop of his month-long Amtrak book tour, so don't miss the chance to send him off in style. The Last Professionals is the story of young Lynden Hoover, who, in returning to the rails, gets help from The Duke, an old hobo who calls the American landscape his home and teaches Lynden the unwritten Hobo Code of Ethics. However, The Duke also has an enemy: the relentless and brutal Short Arm. With the help of other trusted "knights of the road", they head to a harrowing climax with Short Arm where generations collide and lives hang in the balance.
The Last Professional is a story born on the rails. Ed began his writing career over forty years ago while he caught freight trains and vagabounded around the Pacific Northwest and Canada. The beats and rhythms of the road have imbued his writing with the authenticity of a life on the road. Ed is also the author of the novella, In All Things, and a collection of travel pieces, Road Stories, as well as the death row thriller A Matter of Time, which was written in real time, twenty-four hours, as the last day of the hero's life unfolds. Ed and his wife Jan live in Glen Ellen.
