Local author Bo Kearns will present his novel, Ashes in a Coconut, at Readers’ Books on Thursday, June 13th, with a 6:30 reception and a 7:00 reading. Set in 1980s Indonesia, Ashes in a Coconut has been called “...an intriguing page-turner” by Kirkus Reviews. The novel begins in 1983, when fashion designer Laura Harrison sets aside her professional aspirations to follow her husband, Jack, to Indonesia to support his banking career. The tension between the couple only grows as Jack becomes trapped in the corrupt world of Indonesian business, shady deals, deceit, and fraud. Meanwhile, Laura finds her new passion, using her fashion experience to help save the local orangutans. As the couple’s interests clash, Kearns uses his intimate knowledge of Indonesian life to ramp the suspense higher to reach the inevitable finale.
