Lynn Downey, author and historian, reads from "American Dude Ranch"
Historian Lynn Downey presents American Dude Ranch: A Touch of Cowboy and the Thrill of the West on Thursday, June 30th, 6 p.m.
Welcome local historian Lynn Downey when she talks about her latest book American Dude Ranch: A Touch of Cowboy and the Thrill of the West. If you have been to any of Lynn's previous readings for her earlier books then you know she does meticulous research and then writes a beguiling narrative. And what a better way to start the summer than a nostalgic look at the old wild west and the vacationers who came to partake. Did you know that Jack London's Beauty Ranch in Glen Ellen was run as a dude ranch by his sister, and his widow Charmian, after his death? And there was a dude ranch for dogs at Big Bear Lake where Hollywood silent film starts sent their dogs. There is much to learn, and enjoy, so please come celebrate the American dude ranch with us on Thursday evening.
