Mary Lea Carroll to read from her books, "Saint Everywhere" and "Somehow Saints"
Mary Lea Carroll, author of Saint Everywhere and Somehow Saints, will be at Readers' Books on Thursday, March 10th at 6:00 to read from and discuss her books. By intertwining her spiritual journey as a Catholic with charming travel narratives and reflections on the good works of both venerated saints and everyday people who embody those virtues, Mary Lea brings a fresh perspective on virtuousness and goodness.
Saint Everywhere is a travel narrative with a Catholic twist. After visiting Siena, Mary Lea Carroll grew fascinated with the remarkable story of St. Catherine, prompting a resolution: whenever she was lucky enough to travel, if a shrine dedicated to a female saint was nearby, she'd visit it and learn about her. The book features eight of these visits, from St. Teresa of Avila's shrine in Spain to Mexico City in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the moments of transcendence along the way.
Somehow Saints is both a continuation and a deepening of Mary Lea Carrol's journey. As she travels through Quebec—St. Marie of the Incarnation—to Ireland—St. Brigid of Kildare, she also begins to reflect on her childhood, growing up as one of nine children in Pasadena. Taking inspiration from her past, the history of the saints, and from ordinary people who embody saintly virtues in their everyday lives, Mary Lea weaves together a compelling and entertaining narrative.
Mary Lea Carroll is a writer and world traveler whose Irish Catholic heritage probably goes back more than a thousand years. Mary Lea has worked in travel, theatre, and Hollywood before helping her husband build his business and raising their three daughters who are now adults. Mary Lea Carroll is a life-long resident of Pasadena, California, where she lives with her husband of more than thirty years.
