Robert Shafer presents "Mickey"
Robert Shafter presents his book Mickey at 2pm in the Readers' Garden on Saturday, June 29th at 2pm to read from his memoir, Mickey: The Giveaway Boy. Shafer lays bare his harrowing childhood in 1950s Chicago, telling the story of his mother’s abandonment of her five boys. At the age of nine, his mother found a new home for him by posting an ad in the newspaper. What happened next gives us a heartbreaking glimpse of Shafer’s boyhood. Readers of Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes will recognize the bravery of this memoir. Shafer is a wine country resident and a long time participant in Sonoma’s Random Acts.
